Just in Time for National Pie Day, FRITOS Brand Takes Iconic FRITOS CHILI PIE Recipe to the Extreme with FRITOS Pie Remix Web-based Cooking Series
Fans invited to share extreme ingredient ideas for the chance to win a year's worth of FRITOS Corn Chips

PLANO, Texas, Jan. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of National Pie Day, PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division today formally introduced "FRITOS Pie Remix," a web-based series of cooking videos featuring Frito-Lay executive chef Stephen Kalil and FRITOS Corn Chips. In each FRITOS Pie Remix episode, Chef Stephen remixes FRITOS CHILI PIE – a favorite dish in many homes across the country – using one or more extreme ingredients to create a whole new FRITOS Pie experience.

"With FRITOS Pie Remix, we're turning a true American classic – the FRITOS CHILI PIE – into a culinary adventure," said Frito-Lay executive chef, Stephen Kalil. "From cheesy macaroni to vanilla caramel corn, each episode offers an exciting twist to a familiar family treat. These new FRITOS Pie recipe ideas will impress family and friends, and satisfy even the most adventurous taste buds."

FRITOS CHILI PIE made its debut in 1932, soon after Elmer Doolin and his family started The Fritos Company. While Elmer and his brothers made FRITOS Corn Chips out of their mother, Daisy Dean Doolin's, kitchen, Daisy started creating recipes for a wide range of foods that included FRITOS Corn Chips as a key ingredient. Not long after, the FRITOS CHILI PIE was born. The original FRITOS CHILI PIE recipe involves taking a bowl of FRITOS Corn Chips and topping it with beef chili, cheese and onions. Each FRITOS Pie Remix recipe builds on the traditional FRITOS CHILI PIE formula but spins it into an entirely new taste experience by adding unexpected ingredients typically found in the kitchen or food pantry.

To celebrate the formal launch of FRITOS Pie Remix, Frito-Lay is offering consumers the chance to submit their ideas for a future extreme ingredient to be featured as part of the online cooking series. To participate, consumers should visit www.FritosPieRemix.com and click on "submit extreme ingredient" to submit their extreme ingredient and the reason they think that ingredient would create an interesting flavor opportunity for FRITOS Pie. Submissions will be accepted between Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 and Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.

The winning submission will be chosen by Chef Stephen and announced through Frito-Lay's Twitter feed (@Fritolay). The winner will receive a year's supply of FRITOS Corn Chips, and the chance to see Chef Stephen use his/her extreme ingredient in an upcoming FRITOS Pie Remix episode.

"FRITOS Pie is more than just a great snack or quick meal – it's an iconic dish that, for many, triggers nostalgic memories of high school football games, state fairs and family get-togethers," said Chef Stephen. "With the launch of FRITOS Pie Remix and the search for new extreme ingredients, we're helping make ordinary FRITOS Pie extraordinary, while offering consumers yet another way to engage with one of Frito-Lay's flagship brands."

The FRITOS Pie Remix extreme ingredient contest is only open to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia, 18 and older. Visit www.fritospieremix.com for complete details and official contest rules. To learn more about FRITOS Pie Remix, visit www.fritospieremix.com.
