PepsiCo Releases 2009 Corporate Citizenship Report

PURCHASE, N.Y., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) announced today the release of its 2009 Corporate Citizenship Report titled, "Performance with Purpose: Investing in Sustainable Growth." The report details the company's progress in the 2009 fiscal year toward its mission of "Performance with Purpose" – delivering sustainable growth for its business and society. The full report can be accessed at www.pepsico.com/citizenshipreport.

This year's report is structured around "The Promise of PepsiCo," a declaration that includes ambitious global goals -- 47 commitments in all -- that will guide the company this decade. These global goals focus on nutrition, environmental sustainability, and workplace practices and include specific, industry-leading commitments like reducing sugar, sodium and fat across the company's food and beverage portfolio while increasing whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

"As the world's second-largest food and beverage business, we have a responsibility to help devise solutions to key global challenges where we can have the most impact," said Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo chairman and CEO. "Our strategy for long-term growth is an integral part of our 'Performance with Purpose' mission. In fact, we design our business plans to ensure that the work we do and the investments we make leave a positive impact on society."

Based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, "Performance with Purpose: Investing in Sustainable Growth" highlights PepsiCo's three areas of influence – human sustainability, environmental sustainability and talent sustainability:

  • Human Sustainability – Encourage people to live healthier by offering a portfolio of both enjoyable and wholesome foods and beverages.
  • Environmental Sustainability – Protect the earth's natural resources through innovation and more efficient use of land, energy, water and packaging in our operations.
  • Talent Sustainability – Invest in our associates to help them succeed and develop the skills needed to drive the company's growth, while creating employment opportunities in the communities we serve.
